Sliding Contact Bearing is mainly applied on high-speed, high-precision, and little axial load occasions, such as airplane engine main shaft, machine tool main shaft, and main shafts of other high-speed precision machines. It can also be applied to high-frequency motors, steam turbines, oil pumps, air compressors,s and printing machines, etc. It is one of the bearings most widely used in the machinery industry.

About sliding contact bearings

In rolling contact bearings, the contact between the bearing surfaces is rolling, not sliding contact as in sliding contact bearings. Ordinary sliding bearings start from static, almost metal-to-metal contact, with a high coefficient of friction. A significant advantage of rolling-contact bearings compared to plain bearings is their low start-up friction.
Ball and roller bearings consist of an inner ring mounted on a shaft or journal and an outer ring carried by the bearing.
shell or enclosure. There are balls or rollers between the inner and outer rings, as shown. Use multiple balls or rollers
And they are kept at the proper distance by the retainer so that they don’t touch each other. Retainers are thin strips, usually in two parts, that are assembled after the balls have been properly spaced. Ball bearings are used for light loads and roller bearings are used for heavy loads. Rolling contact bearings, depending on the load to be carried, are divided into: (a) radial bearings, and
(b) Thrust bearing.

Advantages of Rolling Contact Bearings

1. Low starting and running friction except at very high speeds.

2. Ability to withstand momentary shock loads.

3. Accuracy of shaft alignment.

4. Low maintenance cost, as no lubrication is required while in service.

5. Small overall dimensions.

6. Reliability of service.

7. Easy to mount and erect.

8. Cleanliness.
